The Obama administration is using its Affordable Care Act authority to take on MEWAs – multiple employer welfare arrangements – a cooperative way for small businesses to buy health insurance. Data from the Labor Department points out that some MEWAs are beneficial – but some are little more than scams.

On the other side of the fraud front, members of Congress called the administration to task for not doing more to protect Medicaid recipients and dollars, especially in the case of one home health and nursing care company.  

Meanwhile, as the year winds down, bipartisan congressional support for a temporary fix to the looming Medicare physician pay cut is getting caught up in other more partisan issues.
